Big house. Small bedroom? That’s okay, all I do is sleep in there anyway.
We’ve been in this house for almost 8 years this fall and last year we attempted getting the bedroom updated. This is as far as we got…and nope, I didn’t make my bed this morning…or do I ever.
Oh no, no, no! That’s not my room (above). That was my inspiration piece gleaned from the wilds of the www. Sophisticated, modern yet classic with lots of traditional but unique flavors. Hmmm…
More than just looking all fancy, it’s really important to me that my home tells a story…if only to me. Picture below says: Lived in. Darling hubby can’t find the dirty clothes basket. Mama must really love these quilts but hate making the bed. Daddy studies a lot of Bible books. Please paint this bare wood! LOL! Oh well, the truth hurts a bit. Our home evolves with every memory we make, project we tackle and year that goes by. All of these are woven together to make a place that we feel comfortable and hope other folks do too. Nothing is precious or of any significant value…except the feeling you get being at home.
I have a vision of what I would like. The walls are already painted (Slate Teal and Decatur Buff – both Benjamin Moore) and we’ve put up board/batten on the lower 2/3 of 3 walls. Though I’m thinking I want the whole thing Slate Teal now. Like my temporary clothes hanging system? Bad habit.
Oh what I wouldn’t give to rip up this hideous blue carpet TONIGHT! We have the wood floor, just need to put it down. I digress…
The photo of the bedding is from a post from On Sutton Place blog. I love blue and red – and that little pop of red with the neutral bedding. Love those linen ruffled shams…they come in ruby and they are on clearance for $15 each right now. Get in my cart! I planning on mixing some gold/mustard, neutrals and other textured pillows to make the bedding extra fluffy!!!
My issue with decorating is that I can see it all in my head for the most part, I just can’t find it when I’m looking. I’m not a big shopper…unless it’s for shoes, that is. 🙂 So I just glean…finding bits as I go through the years.
I can see a ledge of gallery frames along the top of the wainscot. Including some of my own art, photos of the kids and scripture I love. I love the doorknob drawing – and plan to print that big and frame. You want it too? You can download it here. It’s 8 x 8 at high res for printing. Would love it if you share!
I’ll post again when I’ve made some more progress!
